RECEPTION NEW INTAKE

ASPIRE - LEARN - FLOURISH

The Aspire Learning Federation is made up of two schools - Elm Park Primary School and R J Mitchell Primary School in the London Borough of Havering.

Havering Council (the Local Authority) is the admissions authority for all maintained schools in the London Borough of Havering.

Applications for children to start Reception in September must be made via your home Local Authority. For parents that live in Havering this website is www.eadmissions.org.uk

If your child was born between 1st September 2020 and 31st August 2021, they are due to start school in 2025.

Our next open morning to tour the school is Thursday 19th November 2024.  Please call 01708451453 or email office.epps@theaspirelearningfederation.co.uk to book your place.

TRANSITION ARRANGEMENTS

If you have been successful in securing a Reception space for your child, please accept your place via the E-Admissions website before the deadline.

A member of our Early Years staff will contact you to find out some initial information about your child (allergies, additional needs, etc).

We work closely with our local nurseries, pre-schools and childminders to find out more about your child.  We are happy to visit your child in their current pre-school setting if this is a recommendation.  The school will also attend any meetings to further support transition for identified individuals as recommended by the Local Authority.

Children are invited to attend three ‘Stay and Play’ sessions throughout the summer term before they are due to start.  This gives them an opportunity to get to know their new classrooms, staff and make friends with other pupils.

Each child is also offered a home visit in June/July.  These enable children to develop crucial relationships with staff members in their own comfortable home environments.

Over the summer holidays, staff post stories, activities, and videos to keep our new children engaged and familiar with our faces and voices.

On their first day of school, children are then ready to come into school with smiles on their faces.  In the case where pupils struggle to settle, we are happy to discuss alternative transition arrangements to further support this crucial stage.
